Shame on Frozen and Disney for ruining anything dealing with romantic love. This version is not what Alcott intended at all. And when has loving someone become so horrific? Changing words and adapting it so it looks as if romantic love of another human being, whether it be a man or a woman is so incredibly wrong? Too bad Hollywood hasn't fallen into the ocean yet. I loved the book and the two other versions of the movie (Katherine Hepburn, June Alyson) but the issue of feminism is dealt with a heavy hand here. I dont think it reflects the essence of Alcott. Best movie of the year. One of the main reasons I was interested in seeing this new version of the classic "Little Women" story was because Greta Gerwig came on board to direct, and strangely enough, I thought the direction was actually one of the weaker aspects of the film. The choice by Gerwig, or perhaps her editor, to tell this story non-linearly feels like a mistake but a unique choice that I'm sure many people appreciated. Across the board, the performances, cinematography, writing etc. were all very good. But I wasn't sucked in like I hoped I would be, and much of that can be attributed to the jumbled storytelling (or at least in my opinion. But I am glad the film is getting recognition considering Gerwig was mostly snubbed a few years ago for Lady Bird.

True friendship can be as strong as marriage, but they are DIFFERENT kinds of love. Jo noticed the difference and she spoke only the truth because she loved Laurie (as a friend) That was a tough and brave decision, which made the character Jo even more special. Their father was away at war, their sister died of scarlet fever. In fact, the whole book is about the four of them overcoming their problems and selfishness and devoting their lives to everyone around them. Beth spent her last days making knitted gloves for the poor kids in their town. No matter how bad this movie is, the books were truly a work of art.

Midsommar. Snubbed for Best Actress. Should have been a double nominee with Scarlett.

It was all chopped up, You couldn't tell whether something was in the past, present, or future, the names were unclear, all the men looked exactly alike and all their names were the same name! I wouldn't waste my money on such a terrible disappointment! The vignettes were poorly arranged and out of sync with each other. just a shame.

She didn't want to follow the path set before every women: get married and have kids. She walked to the beat of her own drum. I heard somewhere that it is speculated that Jo is gay, and that the writer never intended for Jo to be in a romantic relationship/ get married, but she was pressured by her publishers. Might be wrong tho.
